Nurture Shock

Has anyone read it? SOOOOOOOOOOO fascinating.

I cannot recommend it enough for parents and soon to be parents. My dad has been hounding me for six months to read it and I'm so glad I finally am. In fact he buys it for everyone who fits into the parents/stb parents category.

It's like Freakanomics for parenting. Which means I find myself nerdily talking about it to anyone who will listen, but I will spare you all and just encourage you to buy yourself a copy now now now.

What happened to parenting from the heart? When my little crumb was born, I was so overwhelmed with the amount of books and advice given, that I threw it all out the window and just followed my heart and maternal instincts. Believe it or not, two years later, and I must say it has worked. We are blessed with a very loving, kind, obedient, healthy child who is social, well-adjusted and very happy. Every child is different, and just remember what works for some may not work for others. Common sense (if you are lucky enough to have it and use it) plays a great role in parenting. I have a pretty good hunch that you are going to be fantastic at it - your love for all things nature and real shows you are honed into your instincts.

I love the enthusiasm for thinking through typical parenting advice... But I think Mel nailed it! Your blog shows introspection, critical thought, and a general appreciation for the simpler things in life.
I'll flip thru this one next time I'm at a book store though!
Thanks for posting. Here's hoping u follow your gut :)
