This photo in the recent Patagonia catalog makes me desperate to plan a camping trip with my children who are older than 4.5 months. The majority of our vacations involved tents and coleman stoves when we were young, and now that I'm the mama I can't wait to take my babies to the dirt too.
It was always so exciting, making pancakes outside in the morning and sitting around the fire at night.
We're contemplating a weekend at El Capitan Canyon this fall. It's sissy camping, but probably all we'll be able to manage this first year of parenthood. Or if we get really adventurous we might try for a night at Sycamore Canyon, up past Malibu, but that might be advanced for our current state.
Most likely the closest we'll get to camping is a week in Yosemite with my family this August. In a house... but a house in Yosemite which surely smells like fallen pine needles and campfire all the same.

Do it Kristina. I always feel more whole after even one night in a tent. I don't yet have children but many of my friends have brought little ones and it worked out just fine for one night!
i too share your dreams of campfires and roasted marshmallows. patagonia is one of our favorite stores {seriously} and i could stay in there forever! your little ones are lucky to have an adventurous mom :)
xo,

I'm a California native, transplanted to Iowa. I have a longing in my heart for Yosemite, please drink it in for me (:
you and me both.
I can't wait until I take my son camping, too! He's old enough now but I just need to find time to go =)
I have been dreaming of a camping trip...it's on our to do list for this summer!
Thanks for the added inspiration and the reminder that I have to get planning:)

The last trip I took to Yosemite was fabulous! It was still snowing and everything looked so picturesque.
i took kiwi on a surprise trip to el capitan canyon for his 30th birthday! he absolutely loved it. we went sea kayaking during the day and took long walks around the property in the evenings.
it did feel pretty luxurious to snuggle up in a nice warm bed every night instead of in a sleeping bag on the floor!
I can't wait for our next camping trip! My favorite time is the fall when it's cool enough to cuddle in a sleeping bag - not so hot that I'd sweat my ass off.
love! that catalogue makes me want to have babies just to take them hiking :)
dashiell is one lucky little man!
