vintage pottery for our california garden party

It's kind of wild to see everything start to come together here in the waning days of wedding planning. Not that I have much confidence that it will actually all come together, I'm highly realistic in that way, but you know I think it will be nice all the same.

I've been collecting vintage california pottery for the last year or so (greens and whites) to use for centepieces and such around the reception. I counted last night and we've got 42 pieces plus a handful of little minis. They are covering the shelves in the living room. Here's a sampling:

So we'll fill these with succulents (my project for next week when I'm done with work!) and flowers (yay Hoot & Heart!) and scatter them around.

What am I going to do with 42 pieces of vintage pottery post-wedding? Sell them of course! I mean I'll keep my faves, but anyone interested in buying a big lot of vases for their own wedding should contact me... in December. When we're back from the honeymoon and can face logistics again.

Lovely. I seriously admire people who collected vintage containers for flowers. It really adds another layer.

How beautiful, they will look very very lovely! I particularly like the splash of blue! I'm a collector of old tea time treasures, I really love old things, so characterful.

I love your blog and I might be interested in buying some of your pottery. Your wedding will be beautiful! I left you a comment for an entry that you made in June...not sure if you read it, but I talked about a book that I am reading called "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle" by Barbara Kingsolver. It is a must read for anyone who grows their own food or loves gardening. You would love it. Best of luck to you! Thanks for sharing this part of your life with the blogging world:)

Those are gorgeous! I'm doing the same thing but with milk glass. So far in only white because it's so easy to find and we haven't committed to a color scheme. here is a sampling of what we've got so far.

I can't wait to see the final result of what you do!

So pretty and I LOVE the fact that you will have some pieces in your home long after the wedding to remind you of the day!

PS your blog make me happy :)

AWESOME! That was the one part I was sad to miss out on for our short-ish engagement; collecting. These are amazing.

elizabeth- did see your comment about animal vegetable miracle! i responded to it on that post, but the gist was that i LOVE that book. love love love. read it and actually wept at times (probably due to elevated pre-wedding hormones), it's so beautiful and inspiring.

atout- looks great! good luck collecting... if you can snoop around thrift stores in out of the way places, they will be so much cheaper. I bought ~15 pieces in Georgia when I was there in June. Worth it to lug them back because they were so much less expensive!

desert bride - whatever! your wedding was frickin' amazing! you didn't need any collections to make it special. and you didn't have to obsess for so many months, like some of us. :)

So beautiful!!!!

I thought I was going to be able to shed all my ephemera post-wedding, but I have since stored all the candlesticks, vases, dishes....(granted it's only been a week, but it felt strange to be letting them go.)

Good luck, your wedding is going to be so beautiful!!!!!

Soo cool - I absolutely love this idea! I found you thru Domestic Reflections and love your stuff! When the wedding is over you should put them on eBay or Etsy - I collect this stuff too and may be interested in a piece or two! cheers and good luck with the wedding!!

These are GORGEOUS! We're going the vintage container route too, but ours are glass. I love the idea of using pottery for a garden party. Can't wait to see them with the succulents!

If you have any pots you still need to sell please let me know. I am planning succulent wedding centerpieces myself with vintage ceramics!
